Emily Wickard is a current sophomore in the John Martinson Honors College studying biochemistry. She is also a student-athlete, competing on the Northeastern track and cross country teams. After attending a lecture about global health by Dr.Richard Wamai, she became interested in the TERMES center and the global health research ongoing there. Under the guidance of Professor Wamai and the ACCIH staff, Emily proposed a research project studying the co-occurrence of anemia and Kala-azar. This would allow her to gain a deeper understanding of the healthcare in the global context, and become immersed in biomedical research. This experience was especially formative due to her intention to pursue a degree in medicine and biomedical science.
